RYA On Board Scheme at Lakeside Doubles Its Target!

OB_LogoWhen Crosby Lakeside Adventure Centre agreed to run the RYA On Board Scheme, neither Centre staff or Royal Yachting Association staff realised its potential for success. Developed by the RYA to help introduce sailing and windsurfing as a sport for everyone, regardless of needs and ability, OB (OnBoard)'s first-year targets were set by Lakeside at 500 people. RYA thought Lakeside was being optimistic in setting the participation bar so high, but news today revealed they've not only reached their target, but in fact doubled it!

With the help of increasing membership numbers for both Lakeside Academy and Adult Academy, Crosby Lakeside has managed to introduce more than 1,000 first experiences of Sailing and Windsurfing in the past year. The centre is proud to also have a high percentage of young people with varying disabilities accessing watersports.  Fingers crossed the Centre will improve on their targets next year and get more people experiencing watersports for the first time.

It does not matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog the course and progress at your own pace."
