We aim to deliver high quality and creative outdoor learning programmes to a wide range of user groups from inside and outside Sefton. The centre is fully accessible to all groups of the community and will provide programmes that are fully inclusive. Every visit will be inline with the values of the ‘Manifesto for Learning Outside the Classroom’ and will support partners to help young people develop in the 5 key areas identified by Every Child Matters.
The centre has been approved by the Adventurous Activities Licensing Service to deliver a wide range of activities within the Crosby Coastal Park, this ensures that the safety procedures in place are of a high standard and staff have had the appropriate training. In addition we are working towards being awarded the Quality Badge from the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, this will demonstrate that high quality and varied educational learning experience is delivered.
Examples of groups which use the centre includes mainstream schools, youth groups, ‘inclusion’ and behaviour projects, special needs groups, voluntary organisations including clubs, adult coaching & training, corporate training, independent young people and families.
Our programmes are flexible and can be designed around the specific needs of the group you are working with. The learning programmes will be developed with the group leader using the document, ‘High Quality Outdoor Education’ produced by Outdoor Education Advisers’ Panel, which identifies the key learning outcomes in areas of skill, knowledge, experience and understanding, groups can develop through visiting the centre. Depending on your needs, we can focus on particular learning outcome identified in the document, or design programmes which can cover a number of learning outcomes.
The range of activities are delivered by our team of outdoor instructors who will facilitate a structured outdoor experiences using the ‘Plan, Do, Review’ model of experiential learning. Many of our programmes will be accredited using National Governing Body Awards and we will be exploring becoming an ASDAN and AQA accredited centre in 2011.
We also have systems of measuring and evaluating learning outcomes in place so that progress, achievement and areas of further development can be clearly identified.
